Cleaning and Laundry Get Easier When you Understand This...

This is the 2nd episode in a 2-episode series on maintaining an Intentional Home.

The last episode was all about the kitchen, and here we are now talking laundry and cleaning.

Let’s flip the switch on how we think and act when it comes to cleaning and laundry.

The Light Bulb Moment

My stepdad told me years ago, that once he realized cleaning and laundry just HAD to happen every day, life got so much easier.

It was a light bulb moment for him, and it was a light bulb moment for me when he shared his newfound perspective.

I had never thought of it that way!

I share more about how transformative this single mindset shift was for me in this episode!

Living with all these boys, there's
just too many possibilities
for stinky situations.
Let's talk about how I keep my home from smelling like a locker room...

LAUNDRY

It has to be run every single day.
This is so it doesn't sit around in a hamper or closet getting stinky.

This helps to:
*create a routine that makes the laundry feel less annoying
*keep track of uniforms and socks, and all clothing things important and time sensitive

Clean it - Fold it - Put it away
Everyone breaks down in one of these phases. Find a way to get through it, because... spoiler alert: it's never going to end. So just distract yourself while you do it!

Laundry System Ideas:

  • Each kid gets a designated day of the week to wash all the things.
  • Themed days - Whites on Monday, Darks on Tuesday, etc

Get it into a routine.
Make it something so that it just happens, so that its less of a chore!

CLEANING
When it comes to cleaning - I think of buckets. Mentally compartmentalizing and categorizing these tasks gives me a better mindset about the big picture of cleaning the house.

Types of Cleaning Task "Buckets" DAILY - WEEKLY - MONTHLY

I have TONS of Cleaning Checklists on the $5 Dinners Blog in partnership with Art of Green.

Cleaning & Laundry. It’s just something that happens. It’s part of your routine and daily life.
